2019 NFL Mock Draft

2019 NFL Draft

No Trades Mock Draft

Ahh, Draft Time, my favorite time of year. The pomp, the circumstance, and mystery of your team’s future being solved. These picks are a mix of who I think teams should pick.

Guide

Instant Starter – you get it.

Fringe Starter – I could see them starting but they will have to go through a position battle during training camp with a veteran.

Instant Backup – Starter is in place; pick will have to learn behind the starter.

Rotational Player – The pick will see playing time, the question is how much? (Slot receiver, nickel/dime back, 3rd down RB)

1.          Arizona Cardinals – Kyler Murray / QB / Oklahoma

I fully believe that the Cardinals already have a deal in place to move Rosen. The question is, where is the other end of that deal. I could see New York Giants or Los Angeles Chargers on the other end. Anyway, Murray at #1 is a swing for the fences, but a swing that could payoff in a big way. He’s the most dynamic QB we’ve seen since Russell Wilson entered the league. If Kliff Kingsbury puts the rights pieces around him, Murray could be a superstar in this league. Instant Starter.

2.          San Francisco 49ers – Nick Bosa / DE / Ohio State

There isn’t much film on Bosa, but the film that is there is very impressive. He has a dynamic set of pass rush moves and plays one step ahead of the tackle across from him. He has a high motor and ideal athleticism at DE. Also, he has an All-Pro pass rusher in his family. He is my #1 prospect in this class. Instant Starter.

3.          New York Jets – Josh Allen / EDGE / Kentucky

Allen is the 2nd best pass rusher in this draft and that’s saying something.   Allen at 6-5 & 255lb., possess ideal size at 3-4 OLB and the Jets need a lot of things in this draft, but an edge rusher would a great place to start. Instant Starter.

4.          Oakland Raiders – Quinnen Williams / DT / Alabama

Here is the biggest thing you need to know about Quinnen Williams, his pro comparison is Aaron Donald, oh and that he is 6-3, 300 lbs. His tape is identical to that of Donald’s, constantly splitting double teams and being am elite pass rusher on the inside. Instant Starter.

5.          Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Montez Sweat

EDGE / Mississippi State

To me, this is a dart board draft for Tampa. The need just about everything besides NT or WR. So why not just throw that dart as close to the bullseye as possible. Although Carl Nassib was a great pick up, Gerald McCoy is 31 years old and Vita Vea isn’t much of a pass rusher at all. Sweat brings a 6-6 260lb. frame that is built for dominance at the next level. Oh, by the way, he ran a 4.41 40-yard dash. Wow. Rotation Player.

6.          New York Giants – Dwayne Haskins / QB / Ohio State

The more I look at this pick, the more I don’t like it, especially after Giants GM Dave Gettleman saying he feels no pressure to take a QB after Eli’s performance last year but that could just be smoke and mirrors. Although, I do see the Giants war room taking Haskins, he’s been very outspoken that he wants to play for the Giants, and he can come into a perfect situation. He can learn behind a future HOF QB, have an All-Pro RB in his backfield, and the Giants could have time to bring in the o-line and targets Haskins needs to succeed. Instant Backup.

7.          Jacksonville Jaguars – TJ Hockenson / TE / Iowa

Nick Foles takes over with a Jacksonville team that two years ago was one half of football a way from a trip to Super Bowl 52. The Jags posses a decent o-line, but below average weapons. TJ Hockenson at 6-5, 250 lbs. with speed to split the seam, could be scary option for the Jags. Instant Starter.

8.          Detroit Lions – Devin White / LB / LSU

The addition of Trey Flowers will help a below average Lions defense, but they still need a playmaker in the middle to compliment Flowers, Harrison, Ansah upfront and Slay on the outside. Devin White plays sideline to sideline and can bring energy to a dying franchise. Instant Stater.

9.          Buffalo Bills – Jawaan Taylor / OT / Florida

Even though the Bills finished just 6-10, they might be onto something with Josh Allen. Allen showed glimpses of being a future elite QB. So how do the Bills plan to protect their investment? They draft the best pass lineman in this draft. Taylor at 6-5, 310 possess superior strength, and great run blocking ability. He has some trouble facing pure speed rushers but if he can get his hands on them, it’s over. Instant Starter.

10.      Denver Broncos – Ed Oliver / DT / Houston

One year ago, if you told Broncos fans they were going to get Ed Oliver in next years draft, they would probably be mad that they placed dead last. Up until 9 months ago, Ed Oliver was the undisputed #1 prospect in this class, but a disappointing junior season and some sideline incidents with coaches, his draft stock fell. Denver might go QB here, but they need to help out Von Miller and the defense with the best run stopping DT in the draft. Instant Starter.

11.      Cincinnati Bengals Rashan Gary / EDGE / Michigan

What is the best way to describe the Bengals defenses? Two words, old and messy. The last time the Bengals drafted a pass rusher in the first round....... 5x Pro-Bowler, Justin Smith.  Gary might be a little raw of a talent for here at #11 overall but he might just be the best athlete in this draft. Standing 6-4 and weighing just around 270, Gary ran a 4.53 40-yard dash at the combine. If the Cincinnati coaching staff can work with Gary, we could be talking about him as one of the best pure pass rushers in the NFL for years to come. Rotational Player.

12.      Green Bay Packers – Jonah Williams / OL / Alabama

A lot of people are predicting edge rusher here, but after the additions of Preston Smith and Za’Darius Smith, I feel like that position is good for now. Jonah Williams is a top 15 prospect with the potential to be this years Quinten Nelson. He is versatile enough to play guard or tackle and brings a mauler mentality that Packer fans will love. Also, the past two seasons have been forgettable because of Aaron Rodgers has been injured in both. If Aaron Rodgers has the time to make throws, look out NFL. Instant Starter.

13.      Miami Dolphins – Andre Dillard

OT / Washington State

Not picking a quarterback here was tough, but I think the Dolphins make the right decision. On paper, the Dolphins are the worst team in the league and unless Fitzmagic can do the impossible, the Dolphins are looking at a top-3 pick next year. In a draft that could feature both Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence. Dillard brings a long frame is built for pass protection and he could be the anchor that is set to protect the next franchise QB for the ‘Phins. Instant Starter.

14.      Atlanta Falcons – Brian Burns / EDGE / Florida State

The Falcons, just like the past 4 seasons have had the offense to play with anybody but lack the defense to stay a legit contender. Burns brings length and speed from the edge but doesn’t use his hands all that well. If he can learn under Vic Beasley, he could be an immense help to the Falcons. Instant Backup.

15.      Washington Redskins – D.K. Metcalf / WR / Ole Miss

The Josh Doctson experiment has failed for the Redskins and they need a viable threat at WR. Many people are projecting Marquise Brown here, but I think size and durability plays a huge role. For me its undoubtably DK Metcalf, 6-3, 240 lbs., with a 4.3 40-yard dash.  Metcalf possess great catching ability, but the jury is out on whether his route running, and separation will translate to the pro-level. Great pick to give new QB Case Keenum a young target. Instant Starter.

16.      Carolina Panthers – Cody Ford / OL / Oklahoma

The Panthers need to fill two positions, safety and offensive line. With plenty of safeties available in the 2nd round and the top offensive linemen flying off the board, the Panthers grab a steal here in Cody Ford. He’s a great downhill blocker which will fit with Ron Rivera’s read option system and to help out Cam Newton, he has experience protecting a scrambling QB in college. Instant Starter.

17.  New York Giants (From CLE) - Devin Bush / LB / Michigan

With their future franchise QB taken at #6 overall, it would make sense for the Giants to go with OL here, but they can’t pass on Bush. Bush standing at 5-11, doesn’t possess the ideal size for ILB, but his speed and instincts make up for it. He is great in coverage and against tight ends, which could prove valuable in the NFC East against Jason Witten, Zach Ertz, and Jordan Reed. Instant Starter.

18.      Minnesota Vikings – Chris Lindstrom

OG / Boston College

We can all agree that the first season in the Cousin era for the Vikings was a disappointment. He has weapons like Diggs, Thielen, Rudolph, and has a top 5 defense across from him, yet the Vikes failed to make the playoffs. The noticeable downfall of this team was the offensive line. Lindstrom is an athletic guard that plays downhill, and his pulling/lateral ability reminds me of Quinten Nelson. Instant Starter.

19.      Tennessee Titans – Christian Wilkins / DT / Clemson

To me it’s a miracle that Wilkins fell this far. Wilkins possess all the intagibles that scouts look for in a DT. Size, strength, lateral ability, gap control and hand use. Wilkins isn’t the most athletic DT in this draft, but he possess the most pro ready skill set. Tennessee’s defense was bailed out last year by the offense’s ball control/clock draining offense. Wilkins is a leader and could be the cornerstone of the Titans’ defense for years to come. Instant Starter.

20.      Pittsburgh Steelers – Byron Murphy / CB / Washington

The Steelers would love to get an ILB here, but after both Devin White and Devin Bush are taken, and in that case they can afford to wait till day 2 for an ILB. The Steelers secondary is decent at best but not nearly great. Their best cornerback is Joe Haden, who will be 30 this season. Byron Murphy didn’t impress at the combine, but tape doesn’t lie, and his tape is awesome. He flips his hips on a dime, stops and starts with the receiver, and possess great ball skills. Rotational Player (Nickel back).

21.      Seattle Seahawks – Noah Fant / TE / Iowa

I wouldn’t be shocked is Seattle traded back at this point, but if I was in the Seattle war room, I’d be clamoring for Noah Fant. While OL makes sense after signing Russell Wilson to a big deal, Fant is a great receiving TE that has spent a lot of time lined up in the slot for the Hawkeyes. He can split the seam and has WR route running skills. Rotational Player (3rd Down).

22.      Baltimore Ravens – Clelin Ferrell / EDGE / Clemson

Baltimore fans should be elated when this pick is announced. Ferrell has the potential to be a top 5 talent in this draft. Ferrell had one of the most dominant college careers ever. His explosive first step allows him to get around almost any tackle but needs to work on stopping the run at the next level. The Ravens have a strong secondary but need to fill in the pass rush holes left by the departures of Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith. Instant Starter.

23.      Houston Texans – Garrett Bradbury

Interior OL / North Carolina State

Houston’s future looks bright behind Deshaun Watson, but only if Watson sees the field. Houston has the defense and the weapons to contend but they need Watson to be on the field and confident he isn’t going to get hit every time he drops back. What Bradbury lacks in size and strength he makes up for in athleticism. He excelled at getting to the second level and picking up blitzers in pass protection and that should work right into Houston’s zone and spread scheme. Fringe Starter.

24.      Oakland Raiders (From CHI) – Greedy Williams

With the retirement of Jordy Nelson and only one WR taken so far, I’m sure Raider fans would love to see the Raiders take either Marquise Brown or A.J. Brown, but they need help on defense. Williams brings length and the ability to play great man to man defense. Going up against Antonio Brown every day in practice is only going to bring Greedy along a lot sooner. Instant Starter.

25.      Philadelphia Eagles – Deandre Baker / CB / Georgia

The only reason Baker fell this far is because of his size (5-11 180 lbs.). He showed elite cover skills against the best WR’s in the country. He might not have ideal size, but he plays much bigger than his frame. Which fits right into the underdog mentality that the Eagles posses. Instant Starter.

26.      Indianapolis Colts – Marquise “Hollywood” Brown

WR / Oklahoma

Brown’s stock is rapidly rising due to his explosive playmaking ability and the hope he will turn out to be his cousin Antonio Brown on the field, and himself off the field. Brown joins T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron and newly acquired veteran Devin Funchess in the Colt’s receiving core. Could be a massive fantasy season for Andrew Luck. Fringe Starter (Slot WR).

27.      Oakland Raiders (From DAL) - Josh Jacobs

The Oakland Raiders traded away two star players in Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper in order to build the type of team Jon Gruden wanted. Already selecting Quinnen Williams and Greedy Williams on defense, its time to get a RB to help out Derek Carr and the offense. Josh Jacobs is a one-cut back who is always fighting for extra yards. He also exceeds in pass protection so I believe he can become a three down back. Instant Starter.

28.      Los Angeles Chargers – Drew Lock / QB / Missouri

Many people have Lock rising into the top 15 but I just can’t see how teams pass on the great offensive line and pass rushing talent ahead of him. I project Lock to be a middle of the line QB, nothing more, nothing less. His best bet for success is learning behind a QB like Phillip Rivers. Instant Backup.

29.      Kansas City Chiefs – Erik McCoy

Interior OL / Texas A&M

I'm sure most Chiefs fans would love an edge rusher to replace the production of Justin Houston, but unless they trade up, I can’t see them grabbing one. Pat Mahomes looks poised to dominate the NFL for years to come and in that case, Erik McCoy is a great option for the Chiefs. He’s an athletic interior offensive lineman with great punch. He might need to add strength to deal with NFL caliber NTs in the run game, but I think the Chiefs ace the first round with this pick. Instant Starter.

30.      Green Bay Packers (From NO) – Irv Smith Jr.

TE / Alabama

Although I’m sure they would prefer Noah Fant or T.J. Hockerson, Irv Smith Jr. is great value for the Pack. He is the last of the elite class of TEs in this draft. He possess great hands, the ability to box out DBs and run by linebackers. He could learn behind Jimmy Graham and catch passes from Aaron Rodgers, a situation any TE would dream of. Rotational Player.

31.      Los Angeles Rams – Nassir Adderly / S / Delaware

Not a lot of people are predicting Adderly here, but I think he is a perfect fit for the Rams. After, the loss of LaMarcus Joyner to free agency, the Rams signed Eric Weddle. Weddle, 34, isn’t the long-term option for the Rams. Adderly excels at playing the deep ball and having instincts to break on the underneath routes. Instant Backup.

32.      New England Patriots – Daniel Jones / QB / Duke

If Daniel Jones hears his name called here, he should celebrate like he won the lottery. He is going into the best possible situation for a rookie QB. He gets to learn behind Tom Brady who is going to push Jones every day in order prove he is still top dog. He gets to learn behind, in my eyes, the best offensive mind in the game in Josh McDaniels, and the greatest football coach in the history of football Bill Belichick. Instant Backup.
